Issues

We need to think outside the box to identify successful, economic strategies for supporting our local businesses and local economy. This would include bringing back and developing jobs for individuals and families. Also, we must support stay at home workers dealing with the balance of employment and family home schooling.  Let’s all remain aware of these strained bandwidth issues and do what we can as a city to provide any needed infrastructure through working with partners in the community who can provide the services.

COVID-19 - Addressing the crisis associated with the pandemic we are all currently facing and its devastating impact on the citizens and community of Sebastopol would be my immediate priority.  I will always find a way to support our struggling diverse, and incredible, small businesses. Important to me personally, I will work to discover methods to support stay at home workers dealing with the balance of employment and family schooling.

Housing - I support mandating affordable housing for new developments that are approved in Sebastopol.  I also support creative ways to enable affordable housing, such as the development of Accessory Dwelling Units and partnerships with non-profit affordable housing developers.

Homeless - I will work closely with the County of Sonoma so that we are in sync with funding streams as well as city decisions for homeless services centers and transitional housing opportunities.  I will remain vigilant for “outside the box” solutions as well.

Density - Sebastopol is a small town, and I think we need to be mindful of protecting our small-town character. Having said that, I do see some opportunities for mixed-use, infill projects.

City Budget and Transparency - A crucial priority will be to help educate the community about where things stand so that as budget decisions are developed, our residents have some understanding of how the city services and other programs will be impacted.

There are also issues with fire preparedness, and the economic recession, “main street” challenges from the traffic in town, homelessness and housing, street maintenance and repaving, supporting and improving our parks, and creating affordable housing opportunities. All major issues our city is grappling with.  I will bring a calm and well thought out perspective to the debate while seeking the best, affordable solutions to these problems.
